Fantasia and Jurassic park

Hey everyone

Today band was cut short cause BG has places to go and people to see. We basically got Fantasia and Jurassic park back today, so we went through them and smoothed out a few wrinkles. It's all sounding awesome so far and all we gotta do is keep up the good work. I can already tell that movie night is going to be a great success.

ugh, I hate being sick

Hey everyone

Just thought that I'd make a bit of an attempt to update in between sneezes and coughs. We got our new folders assigned on Wednesday and I thought that I'd just recap the rules.

Rule#1: guard it with your life

The new folders are considered the same as a text book. If you lose it, you don't get your report card and blah blah blah, you know the drill.

Rule#2: use it for sheet music only.

For those of us who have essential elements books, method books, and rock collections, Please refrain from keeping various items stashed in your folder to prolong their life.

Rule#3 don't be stupid

The leatherette folders look awesome, but aren't as durable as the plastic ones. Please take care of them and don't spill drinks / the blood of the innocent on them.

Also as a note, they come with a free pencil that you should use to make marking in your music and such. just try not to write fingerings / notes through the whole piece.

Oh, and we're getting fantasia sometime very soon. That's the piece with Toccata fugue in Dm and all those awesome songs in it.

and finally, if anyone wants to email me anything band related at music [dot] Thomson [at] gmail [dot] com and basically help make this blog as informative as possible. I need all the help I can get.

sincerely,

The Band Executive

R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

Hey everyone

Yesterday was a very good practice. We had a bit of tuning issues, and a few people were talking, but those were just minor inconveniences. What really upset me, and the band as a whole, was how much disrespect the band was showing towards BG by swarming over Miguel's chips without even asking him, knowing what all of that junk will do to your instrument, and doing so while we were practicing something. Hopefully everyone who did that will be cleaning out their instrument of all of the crumbs and grease that are in there now.

In other news, Miguel had something really important to say, but not nearly enough people were listening. For the social, Miguel can get a monster deal on the weekend, where everyone only has to pay for shoe rentals, but during the week, we would have to pay 7 something an hour per frame. about 10 people can play on a frame and assuming that at last 30 people would go, that's $21 an hour!!!

Compared to playing as long as we want, and only having to pay about $3 for shoes, ontop of the fact that we would get to play a lot longer than if we played after school.

and now as a final note, PLEASE pay attention to Mr Gorst during band. It seriously annoys everyone in the whole band when BG is standing up there conducting 10 bars while waiting for the same people to look up and play. well, of course they play after asking "which bar are we starting on?"

Also, count the multi bars of rest, and also just count in general. And look up; I don't understand how you can play the same piece of music in band and not be able to look up for even a few seconds to look at BG while he conducts. that's the main reason why people play too fast / too slow *accompanied with the fact that people don't listen*

Please people, we have to work as a team to make this band sound beautiful. Respect each other, pay attention, and practice. We should all know this already, but i guess you just need to be reminded.

semester two band

Hey everyone

I hope all of you did well on your exams. For those who didn't hear the announcements, band is starting as usual this week and we had a phenomenal practice. The topic of the 50 new music folders came up. i can't remember much of it cause it's really hard to remember anything while operating on only 30 minutes of sleep, but I digress.

For a few people who noticed, Morgan is officially enjoying his new home in Orillia and it seems to throw off the whole ambiance of the percussion section. Speaking of percussion, BG is working on an original master piece called fanfare for percussion and brass *I think >_<* and it's gonna be awesome. Well, it's almost 6:30 and I should probably get some sleep

See you on wednesday!!
