band social money
I'm so forgetful >_<
In case you didn't know already, Our band social is going to be a Festive Ginger bread house making contest to help the group pull together and meet new people that we may not have socialized with before. And in case you thought we lived in candy land, Ginger bread houses are not free. We are asking for $1.50 - $2 from more than half the people by WEDNESDAY to make this work.
If we do not get the money, we will NOT be doing it and Mary will be upset. Just as a reminder, Feel free to make comments and Email suggestions to music[dot]thomson[at]gmail[dot]com, Remembering to de-spam the email.
And just in advanced, No, the Jazz band cannot wear fedoras >:U

Holiday Concert is almost here!!1
Hey Everyone,
Practice in the auditorium was great!! We really pulled a lot of things together and advanced as a whole. Remember: Our next practice is TOMORROW in the auditorium. I repeat, That's Tuesday December 11th Two-Thousand Seven. Don't forget to get tickets for your loved-ones ahead of time, and I'll try my hardest to post A mini-program that everyone can put in their folder. Make sure that if you don't have music, that you tell Mr. Gorst as soon as you can and get that fixed up. We don't need people frantically scurrying around looking for music just as Mr Gorst counts us in.
(allocated space for the program)
uniform:
-Black pants
-Black shoes
-Black socks
-White collared shirt
-Band vest
It's imperative that the people in the back row have uniforms this time. Everyone's on raisers this time and you'll stick out.
Also, Feel free to ask friends if they want tickets to see us play. They might be interested in seeing what the music program has to offer, and they might even like a few of the pieces.
The concert starts at 7:00, but the pre-show conversation starts at 6:30 and members of the band should be at the school by 5;00.If you don't think that you can make it, I suggest that you just stay at school and hang out with the rest of the band instead of showing up 20 minutes late. Having band members walking around and socializing gives the audience and visitors a chance to see that we're not just nerdy people who make noise, but we have personality also, but I digress.
The pre-show conversation is a great opportunity to inform our audience of what the music program does, and even learn a bit about the pieces. We'll try to get a certain someone to stop talking about John Williams before it begins to cut into concert time.
So just to recap. bring your music, show up on time, remember your uniform, practice on tuesday, and HELP BRING INSTRUMENTS BACK TO THE MUSIC ROOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it makes the whole thing go by faster and relieves strain on my decrepit spine. As much as you may want to go home and sleep, keep in mind that EVERYONE is thinking the exact same thing. It gets annoying when there's only 6 people dragging percussion down the hallway mumbling about how they would rather be in their comfy bed.
Sorry if I ramble on too much, but I just don't feel like forgetting anything; although I feel as if I have. Keep with the holiday spirit!! Remember: he's making a list and checking it twice. if you don't help set down, instead of getting that box of reeds, or that book of university level Trumpet music, YOU'RE GONNA GET COAL

oopz
Hey everyone
Today wasn't that great of a day for me and I forgot to purpose my idea during band. Oh well, I still have executive on Wednesday. I also forgot a lot of other stuff too and I'm sorry that this post is going to be a short one.
Protip: Watch the clock! too many people were late coming from break today. Also, if you eat something sweet, drink water before you play. The sugars in your mouth get into the instrument and give it cancer.

Just updating
Hey everyone!
Starting with tomorrow's band practice, i'm going to ask for the sections to assist in the writing of this blog!!! i really want to get some posts up that summarize section practices so that people who *ahem* don't go to practice, can come here and read what they missed. i also have a little project that I feel like launching thisChristmas Holiday that could be great for publicity *if only I thought of it sooner...*
and of course feel free to make suggestions by commenting or even emailing the blog at Music{dot}Thomson{at}gmail[dot} com. of course remembering to de-spam the email and get those suggestions flowing in
Protip: don't be afraid of writing the letter names on the photocopies or to ask your section leader, or someone smart such as Ben and... Ben, to help you with rhythm and fingering. I would also suggest that if you play a valved / slide instrument, to REFRAIN from writing in fingering / positions. Although it may seem easier, it makes the learning process really slow. writing out letters though harder parts of the music force you to learn how to coordinate fingerings with letters, and the letters to their position on the staff without having to count "1 every 2 good 3 boy 4 deserves" everytime you need to play a D
And just to let you guys know, I'll try to make the Protips more frequent and smaller than my actual post

Under new management
Hey Everyone
Since this blog has been sitting painfully under-published, I've decided to take over updating this page to make it both relevent to both the concert band, but to people who feel like reading up on what the thomson band is doing. As for today, I'm going to be brainstorming different ways to make this blog a useful resource to the band students, as well as branching off into other websites such as Facebook or even youtube; Just to get the word out that much more.
As for all the people who I know are dieing to get their suggestions heard in the band, Feel free to ask Mr. Gorst or if you're too timid, just Email the blog at Music[dot]Thomson[at]gmail[dot]com. Just remember to unspam that email so that we can filter out malicious spam.
As short as this may seem, i'm going to try my best to post T.M.E. (Thomson Music Executive) news and to post other interesting bits of information such as new music and perhaps a little bit of what we covered in band practice. If I could actually get information on what the sections work on in sectional practice, I could post information such as bars to practice for each instrument and techniques they covered. But I digress
The Thomson Music blog is under new management. Expect some drastic changes!!!

BAND SOCIAL!!!
Tuesday October 02, 2007
Dear Parent/Guardian,
After Senior Band rehearsal on Wednesday October 3rd, students are invited to meet at Boston Pizza @ Scarborough Town Centre for a small and informal welcome back band social. Band rehearsal will go from 3:30 till 4:45pm, and students will then leave the school and head via TTC (or other pre-arranged transportation) to Boston Pizza. The social will go from 5:30 till 6:30pm. At the conclusion of the social, students are to have pre-arranged their own transportation home, whether that be via TTC/RT, carpooling with a peer’s guardian, or by being picked up his/her guardian.
At the social there will be pizza and limitless pop. Because this is not an official social, participating students need to cover their own transportation expenses to/from the restaurant, and also they need to bring $10 each in cash to cover the expenses for food, pop, taxes, and gratuity. Students need to pay in advance, and can bring the money to Mr. Gorst no later than Wednesday morning. Again, this is an informal social, and is simply an opportunity for the students to get to know each other and to share in good food, laughter, and music conversation!
We would like to thank Andrea Lloyd, our social convener from Thomson’s Music Executive for organizing this event.
Musically,
Mr. Brooks Gorst
Senior Band Director

Hello and Congrats!!
Hello music student, Band and Choir members.
I'd have to say that the Tour went really well, you all played great and were very helpful. I'm sure we all had a great time and lots of fun, so next year we'd like to make it better, the music Executive had a meeting 2 weeks ago and some of the band members came last wedensday to talk about the tour and we all thought it'd be great if we could have 2 days to do the tour and have about 3 schools in each day, that way it would not be overly rushed and the bus would be cheaper!! So what do you think? If you have any other suggestions then post here.
Oh and we have an email for the music students if you have something to talk about or need any important info, or you need music. The address is www.music.thomson@gmail.com
So lets make the next concert a great one and make thomson evener prouder of it's new music teachers and it's students. Lets blow away those TDSB administration at Cedebrea with our new music. And most of all, lets have FUN!!!
sincerely; President, Kayla

Welcome
Alas, we had to revamp our website due to technical difficulties and here we are rebuilding again. I apologize for the inconvenience and I realize that many of our frequent visitors will be distraught trying to relocate us. I am hoping to have this linked up to the actual school's website very soon.
This year's current Band President is Kayla West and she and I will be sharing the "leg work" in getting this site back up and running----and hopefully more efficiently too.
Again, this site is the medium for which all music students past, present, and hopefully future can commuicate and stay in touch. Most of what is found on here is directed toward the Senior Concert Band, but from time to time may include pertinent information for the other ensembles as well.
A big thanks to Kayal for assisting me in this.
Musically,
The Maestro.
